Who We Are

We are The Water Revolution. Thanks for visiting our website. Here’s a little bit about how we got started.

We are the Water Revolution

We are a group of students from across the Clark County School District (CCSD) in Las Vegas, Nevada. Through the generous support of GB Henderson Education, we have spent two consecutive summers learning about water. You might not think that sounds very exciting, but for all of us here who live in the desert, we feel it is something we should know more about.

Our first summer consisted of a 5-week program in which we learned all about important issues surrounding water use and scarcity. We were already aware of water shortages threatening us here in our desert, but there was so much more that we discovered. We talked about environmental issues associated with the irresponsible use of plastic water bottles. Have you ever heard of the Great Garbage Patch in the Pacific Ocean? It is roughly the size of Texas and it contains over 3 million tons of trash. All kinds of trash including plastic water bottles too numerous to count. It’s poisoning the water, killing sea life, and it’s just no good.

And it doesn’t end there. Have you ever thought about the countless landfills across the world that also contain plastic? Probably not, but there are plenty of them and they are polluting our atmosphere. Plastic doesn’ t just go away ya’ know. It takes hundreds of years for a plastic water bottle to decompose.

So you’ re probably thinking, “Okay I’ ll just recycle.” You’ re on the right track. Recycling is an awesome alternative to throwing plastic water bottles away. But what if we rejected them altogether? That would be pretty inconvenient huh? Maybe another fact about plastic will convince you that disposable plastic water bottles are harmful. There is a chemical called BPA found in plastic. When you drink or eat out of plastic, you are ingesting it. And it could be causing numerous health problems. So, not only does plastic harm our environment, it may also be harming our bodies. Once we learned all of this, we were hooked. We couldn’t wait until the following summer when we could put our knowledge to good use. This is where The Water Revolution was born.

Our second summer was a two-week program where we put our Water Revolution campaign together. We divided into teams in order to get all of the work done. Some of us got to be graphic designers for the campaign. One team of us were copywriters. Others got to develop the website and social media pages. Some were  videographers and some tried their hands at public speaking. You can learn more about us through the Who We Are tab.

What are our goals? To get YOU to reject plastic water bottles altogether and to use reusable stainless steel bottles every day.  We’re so excited about this, we’ll even come to your school to convince your peers to do the same. As an incentive, we’ll pay for your school to provide filtered water to all the students. How does that sound? Pretty cool huh? Please, contact us for more information.

We hope our campaign will give you a great learning experience and inspire you to make the change. Living a greener life and making a difference is in the palm of our hands! By thinking about how our choices will affect our planet, we are playing a huge part in changing the way we (as the leaders of tomorrow) see our future. We hope you will join us in the effort of making a difference in our community and the health of our planet, one bottle at a time.

Sincerely,
The Water Revolution
